{"id":115297,"date":"2026-01-12T18:11:12","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T18:11:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/115297\/"},"modified":"2026-01-12T18:11:12","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T18:11:12","slug":"teen-arrested-in-fatal-new-years-eve-shooting-in-fort-lauderdale-appears-in-juvenile-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/115297\/","title":{"rendered":"Teen arrested in fatal New Year\u2019s Eve shooting in Fort Lauderdale appears in juvenile court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text text--small text--normal text--primary\">Published:\u00a0January 12, 2026 at 12:54 PM<\/p>\n<p>Teen arrested in fatal New Year\u2019s Eve shooting in Fort Lauderdale appears in juvenile court  A 17-year-old boy who was arrested over the weekend in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on New Year\u2019s Eve in Fort Lauderdale appeared in juvenile court Monday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.  \u2014 A 17-year-old boy who was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2026\/01\/11\/police-arrest-suspect-in-fatal-new-years-eve-shooting-that-killed-teen-football-star\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2026\/01\/11\/police-arrest-suspect-in-fatal-new-years-eve-shooting-that-killed-teen-football-star\/\">arrested over the weekend<\/a> in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on New Year\u2019s Eve in Fort Lauderdale appeared in juvenile court Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Marquice Henry faces a murder charge in connection with the death of 17-year-old Joshua Gipson Jr.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">On Monday, he was ordered to remain in juvenile detention for at least the next 21 days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">On Saturday, Gipson\u2019s loved ones gathered at Right Way Ministries in Fort Lauderdale to say their final goodbyes to the teen who had a promising future in football, with plans to attend Virginia Tech next school year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Sadly, his life would be cut short after police said he was caught in the crossfire of a shooting outside a CVS on Fort Lauderdale Beach on New Year\u2019s Eve. Gipson was shot in the leg and the back.
