NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla.\u2014Speeding and aggressive driving have become a daily concern for residents traveling along Del Prado Boulevard in North Fort Myers.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Motorists are reporting issues are especially prevalent during rush hour and late at night.<\/p>\n
Bill Dorsey, a North Fort Myers resident, said, “You see kids racing in their sports cars. Mainly, that’s like after 9 p.m. it turns into a speedway around here.”<\/p>\n
Dorsey and others often stay in the right lane to avoid aggressive drivers who weave through traffic at high speeds.<\/p>\n
“People do tend to travel too fast, especially during the rush hours. That’s when things really start to get a little hectic,” said Mike, another North Fort Myers resident.<\/p>\n
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has been actively enforcing traffic laws along Del Prado Boulevard. Since January 1, 2025, deputies have logged 98 incidents, including more than 40 traffic stops.<\/p>\n

“You have to get people to abide by it, and you have to give them tickets. And that’s the only way you’re going to stop these people,” said Mike.<\/p>\n
Dorsey expressed a desire for more visible enforcement, saying, “I think the enforcement would be good if they could see people getting pulled over.”<\/p>\n
The sheriff’s office has been engaging in conversations with the community about driving safety and encourages residents to report reckless driving.<\/p>\n
Mike added, “I watch out for these intersections, because of the people running the lights, it’s very dangerous, and you just have to be very careful going through there.”<\/p>\n
Deputies continue to enforce traffic laws and work closely with residents to address these issues.<\/p>\n
