A woman is recovering after she and her dog were attacked by a pit bull in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
The incident happened on Northwest 15th Place near 18th Avenue.<\/p>\n
According to Fort Lauderdale Police, the incident is being handled by Broward Animal Control.<\/p>\n
NBC6 spoke with Stephanie Jules, who said she had cuts and scratches on her arm and legs.<\/p>\n
“I have a cut on my elbow and then a big cut on my knee,” Jules said.<\/p>\n
She said she was walking her dog, a shih tzu named Cookie, when a pit bull attacked them.<\/p>\n
“I was walking my dog with my sister, and then as we\u2019re coming down to get back to the house, a big pit bull just runs and just attacks us,” she said.<\/p>\n
She said the pit bull bit her dog and had it trapped in its mouth.<\/p>\n
“It already picked up my dog and started shaking it,” she said.<\/p>\n
Bernice Jules was with her sister when it happened.<\/p>\n
“My sister is holding onto the dog, and it\u2019s like almost dragging her down the street,” Bernice said.<\/p>\n
Stephanie said the attack happened so fast that she doesn\u2019t know if she was bitten or scratched, and that she just had marks that were left behind.<\/p>\n
A neighbor who identified herself as the owner of the pitbull didn’t want to, but waved at NBC6 cameras Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
The family said Cookie is being treated for internal bleeding and bruising.<\/p>\n
Stephanie told NBC6 off-camera that investigators removed the pit bull and several other dogs from the home after it happened.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s the second dog attack reported in Broward County in less than a week.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, investigators said a man was bitten multiple times by two dogs.<\/p>\n
