DAVIE, Fla. \u2014 A woman was driving drunk when she ran a red light and ended up T-boned by an SUV driven by an off-duty cop in Davie, killing her front-seat passenger, according to police.<\/p>\n
Authorities arrested Shelvinia Wright, 50, of West Park, on Monday in connection with the Sept. 15, 2024 crash.<\/p>\n
Investigators said Wright, then 49, was driving her Kia Optima at University Drive and State Road 84 at around 2 a.m. when she entered the intersection in front of an off-duty officer with the former Miami-Dade Police Department, driving a Chevrolet Tahoe.<\/p>\n
The officer had a green light, police said, and T-boned the Kia on the passenger\u2019s side. Davie Fire Rescue personnel would pronounce Wright\u2019s front-seat passenger, whose name was redacted from the report, dead at the scene about 40 minutes after the crash.<\/p>\n
Authorities said that after the crash, the off-duty officer asked Wright whether she had been drinking and \u201cshe replied that she had.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to an arrest report, Wright asked the cop for help getting her car onto the sidewalk \u2015 which it was already on.<\/p>\n
Police said Wright admitted to fire rescue personnel that she \u201chad some drinks\u201d that night. <\/p>\n
Authorities said results from a blood test taken more than two hours after the crash showed Wright\u2019s blood alcohol content at 0.14%, nearly twice the legal limit.<\/p>\n
An hour later, her BAC was still over the legal limit, at 0.11%, authorities said. Investigators concluded that her BAC was likely even higher than 0.14% at the time of the wreck.<\/p>\n
Wright, arrested on Monday, was booked into the Broward County jail on DUI manslaughter and other charges.<\/p>\n
As of Tuesday afternoon, she remained there on a $135,000 bond. If she bonds out, she\u2019s subject to a host of conditions, including surrendering her passport, not driving, not leaving Broward County and submitting to GPS monitoring and random drug and alcohol testing twice per week.<\/p>\n
