Tom Brady, who earned the second-most votes in the Town of Fort Myers Beach recall election last November, has officially filed an application to be considered for the vacant seat on the Town of Fort Myers Beach Council.<\/p>\n

The seat was vacated by former Councilman Jim Atterholt, who resigned his seat on Dec. 31.<\/p>\n

Brady is the lone candidate to file thus far for the seat.<\/p>\n

The Town of Fort Myers Beach Council is scheduled to appoint Atterholt\u2019s replacement in February.<\/p>\n

Brady, who has worked as an engineering manager and in corporate information technology, earned enough votes for a seat on the town council in November though the recall of Councilman John King has been stayed.<\/p>\n

A Lee County judge ruled that recall petitions for King were invalid. The decision is currently being appealed by former Councilmember Bill Veach, who led the recall committee for King. Veach told the town council he would drop his appeal of the ruling if Brady is appointed.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy vision for Fort Myers Beach is a resilient, family-friendly island community where residents come first, small businesses thrive, and our natural environment is protected for generations to come,\u201d Brady said in his application.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe in thoughtful development that respects the character, scale, and history of our town; transparent government that listens to and works for its people; and fiscal responsibility that keeps government lean while investing in what truly matters. Growth must follow our Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code\u2013not special interests\u2013so that development enhances our community rather than overwhelms it,\u201d Brady said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am committed to putting residents first and to standing up for those who lack the resources to take on powerful interests alone. I will be a dedicated public servant who advocates for community-driven policies, protects our island, and fosters a sustainable future,\u201d Brady said,<\/p>\n

\u201cBy listening to constituents, thinking independently, and leading with transparency, I will work every day to earn the trust of our community. Together, we can move from recovery to renewal\u2013preserving our island, protecting our future, and building a stronger Fort Myers Beach for all in the community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Applications are due to the Town of Fort Myers Beach by Feb. 2 for those looking to fill the vacancy.<\/p>\n

Whoever is appointed to the seat, will hold the seat until an election is held in November for a four-year term of office.<\/p>\n
