{"id":117798,"date":"2026-01-14T14:08:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-14T14:08:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/117798\/"},"modified":"2026-01-14T14:08:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T14:08:10","slug":"demolition-work-begins-of-old-fort-lauderdale-police-headquarters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/117798\/","title":{"rendered":"Demolition work begins of old Fort Lauderdale police headquarters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text text--small text--normal text--primary\">Published:\u00a0January 14, 2026 at 8:49 AM<\/p>\n<p class=\"text text--small text--normal text--primary\">Updated:\u00a0January 14, 2026 at 9:03 AM<\/p>\n<p>Demolition to begin of old Fort Lauderdale police headquarters  Crews will begin demolishing the former headquarters of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department on Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.  \u2014 Crews began demolishing the former headquarters of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The entire process will take about two to three months. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The building, which dates back to the 1950s, is being torn down as officers transition to a new, state-of-the-art police headquarters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">City leaders say the new facility will support modern policing, advanced training, and stronger community engagement, with space for more than 700 sworn and civilian employees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The new headquarters replaces a building that has been standing for over 80 years and no longer meets today\u2019s operational and safety needs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Back in May, there were some troubling findings in an independent review the city called in to expand inspection of the new police headquarters building-wide, because the summer before that, crews found concrete cracking and the roof deck bending.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Police services will remain fully operational throughout the transition, with no impact to public safety as officers move into the new space in phases.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">City officials say demolishing the former headquarters is a planned part of the overall campus project and will allow remaining site work to be completed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Work is nearly complete at the new facility as the last step is demolishing the old building to give the new facility space for a parking lot. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Traffic in the area is not expected to be affected by the demolition over the next few months. <\/p>\n<p>\ud83c\udfe0 News From Your Neighborhood<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-article-body__copyright\">Copyright 2026 by WPLG Local10.com &#8211;
