CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Cape Coral residents are grappling with the potential impact of proposed property tax cuts.<\/p>\n
Lawmakers are considering reducing property taxes, but city leaders warn that this could affect community services.<\/p>\n
For some homeowners, the solution is finding a balance.<\/p>\n
“I think a little bit of fees are fine and a little bit of sales tax too, as long as it doesn\u2019t get out of control,” said Alan, a local resident.<\/p>\n
Others are more concerned about which services might face cuts.<\/p>\n
“Parks and recreation provide space for seniors ,really everyone, to enjoy living here,” said Laurie, another resident.<\/p>\n
City leaders say police funding would be protected, leaving other services to compete for remaining funds.<\/p>\n
“Something probably will have to give,” Laurie said.<\/p>\n
Residents are questioning whether the savings now are worth potentially losing community amenities.<\/p>\n
“You have to work within what you can afford,” Alan said.<\/p>\n
The debate over property tax relief is just beginning, with several proposals currently moving through the Florida Legislature.<\/p>\n
