\n\t\tDeSantis highlights accomplishments in final \u2018State of the State\u2019 address in Tallahassee\t<\/a><\/p>\n\u201cIf you blocked the road, if you blocked the egress, you will be warned, and you will be taken to jail,\u201d said St. Petersburg Police Chief Anthony Holloway, who was there with Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri as protesters chanted outside of the CBP hiring event.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI do not agree with them getting larger when they are not trained to do what they are doing on the streets,\u201d said Jessica Kelly, who was there to protest against the event.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Demonstrators used megaphones and put up their signs as cars came in and out of the Hilton Carillon.<\/p>\n
Local law enforcement prevented them from entering private property and walking into the streets.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re very respectful of everybody\u2019s right to protest and verbalize and vocalize. They can do it safely, and they need to respect each other and not put hands on each other,\u201d Gualtieri told News Channel 8 during a press conference.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Protesters also expressed concerns about local law enforcement\u2019s involvement with federal authorities.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would ask the sheriff\u2019s office to put themselves in these people\u2019s shoes, I would ask them to find love in their hearts,\u201d Kelly said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The sheriff and chief told News Channel 8 they are simply complying with Florida law.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re not going to the agriculture industry. We\u2019re not stopping people and asking for the papers. So don\u2019t make it that, because that\u2019s not what\u2019s happening in Pinellas County,\u201d Gualtieri said.<\/p>\n
The protest is said to continue on Wednesday morning as CBP hosts its hiring event for the second day.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are not saying to not have law and order, we are saying to stop shooting our citizens, stop kicking people in the face, and to start having warrants and due process,\u201d Kelly said.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"ST.
