U.S. Customs and Border Protection is hosting a recruitment event at the Hilton St. Petersburg Carillon Park on both Tuesday and Wednesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

People gathered outside the hotel to protest ICE and immigration enforcement.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Dozens of people gathered outside the hotel, waving signs and chanting messages that denounced ICE.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The protests come on the heels of the ICE killing of Renee Good in Minneapolis.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Demonstrator Jane Jackson says she\u2019s concerned about her country.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to do something. I can\u2019t sit and watch television and listen to the radio. I have to show my displeasure,\u201d Jackson told WMNF.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jennie Pawlowsky says she was inspired to come out after she read about the treatment of undocumented immigrants in detention centers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI just can\u2019t understand how any political administration, no matter what party you\u2019re from, would want to inflict cruelty on other human beings. So, that\u2019s why I\u2019m here.\u201d Pawlowsky told WMNF.<\/p>\n

At a noon press conference, law enforcement officials stated that there had been no arrests at the protest.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri addressed concerns about all sheriffs\u2019 offices in the state signing agreements to participate in ICE\u2019s 287(g) agreement,<\/a> allowing deputies powers to perform certain immigration enforcement actions.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not stopping people and asking for their papers. So don\u2019t make it that because that ain\u2019t what\u2019s happening in Pinellas County. And so, tell me one time that a local law enforcement officer has engaged in that activity. It hasn\u2019t happened, so everybody just chill on that,\u201d Gualtieri said.<\/p>\n

Protests are set to continue on Wednesday from 9 am to 2pm, according to a Facebook post from group Voices of Florida.\u00a0<\/p>\n
