MIAMI \u2014 A Miami man who was detained Wednesday in connection with an FBI investigation was arrested after he struck a detective and a special agent, authorities said.<\/p>\n
According to an arrest report from the Miami Police Department, Matias Alejandro Gonzalez-Retamal, 24, who is from Chile but currently is homeless in Miami, was pulled over Wednesday night while driving a BMW X3 in the area of Southwest Seventh Avenue and Sixth Street.<\/p>\n
Police said a passenger in the vehicle, identified as Natacha Alejandra Beas Mecias, was also detained in connection with the FBI investigation.<\/p>\n
According to the report, Gonzalez-Retamal initially gave Miami police detectives with the department\u2019s Tactical Robbery Unit, and FBI Violent Crimes Task Force agents a false name.<\/p>\n
Police said one task force officer, however, was able to confirm Gonzalez-Retamal\u2019s true identity.<\/p>\n
While a special agent was in the process of transferring Gonzalez-Retamal from handcuffs to leg restraints with the help of a detective, Gonzalez-Retamal slipped one of his hands free and tried to escape, the report stated.<\/p>\n
Police said he then struck a detective in the face and a special agent in the arm before he was redirected to the ground.<\/p>\n
Gonzalez-Retamal was arrested on charges of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, escape, resisting an officer with violence, providing a false name after arrest and driving without a valid license.<\/p>\n
Details about the FBI investigation were not publicly released and it\u2019s unclear whether Gonzalez-Retamal is also facing federal charges in connection with that investigation.<\/p>\n
While Mecias was also detained at the scene for questioning in connection with the FBI investigation, Gonzalez-Retamal\u2019s arrest report did not list her as a co-defendant.<\/p>\n
As of Thursday, Gonzalez-Retamal was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. He will not be able to post bond as he is also being jailed on an immigration hold. <\/p>\n
