Alert issued in South Florida \u2013 NBC 6 South Florida"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A cold weather advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) for Miami-Dade and Broward counties ahead of a series of cold fronts. <\/p>\n<p>It will be in effect from 3 a.m. until 9 a.m. Friday, the NWS said. <\/p>\n<p>But what does the alert mean, and how should residents respond?<\/p>\n<p>Cold weather advisory<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/safety\/cold-ww\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">According to the NWS,<\/a> a cold weather advisory is the least severe of its cold weather alerts. It essentially means: be aware, dangerously cold conditions are expected. <\/p>\n<p>Though it could be worse, that doesn&#8217;t mean you should ignore the advisory. Very cold temperatures can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Cold air will find its way into SoFlo late tonight into Friday morning. A Freeze Warning is in effect for Glades and Hendry, Cold Weather Advisory for much of the rest of the area for wind chill impacts. Lows: around 30 for Lake region, upper 30s-low 40s around the metro areas. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/kbVw7boLnc\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/kbVw7boLnc<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 NWS Miami (@NWSMiami) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NWSMiami\/status\/2011736895672500739?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">January 15, 2026<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Tips for a cold weather advisory<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Be sure you and your loved ones dress appropriately and cover exposed skin when venturing outdoors,&#8221; the NWS warns.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, you should: <\/p>\n<p>use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a<br \/>hat, and gloves. <\/p>\n<p>keep pets indoors as much as possible.<\/p>\n<p>make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water.<\/p>\n<p>Other cold weather alerts<\/p>\n<p>Other cold weather alerts include: <\/p>\n<p>Extreme cold watch. This alerts people to &#8220;be prepared,&#8221; because &#8220;extremely dangerous cold conditions or wind chill values are possible, but the occurrence, location, and\/or timing is still uncertain.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Extreme cold warning.
