This can occasionally cause green iguanas to drop from trees, it says.

In a Thursday post on X, the FWC outlined actions residents should avoid when they find a reptile stunned by chilly temperatures, linking to an earlier post from the agency which said:

“Definitely do not bring them inside, whether your house or your car. Iguanas can recover from torpor quickly, much faster than you’d think. Wild iguanas can be defensive when not able to escape, sometimes using their sharp teeth and nails, and long tails that whip.

<img id="11370810" alt="" caption="DAVIE, FL - JULY 08: An Iguana is seen July 8, 2008 in Davie, Florida. Because of the rapid spread of the lizards in the South Florida area some county commissioners will ask the state Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission to add the green Iguana to the list of "reptiles of concern," that would require Iguana owners to pay a $100 annual permit and have microchips implanted in them. Some blame pet owners for the over population saying they buy the reptiles in pet stores and when they get to big they release them in the wild where they have thrived.
