A cargo van pulling a trailer was going north on Ohio 49 when it crossed the centerline and hit a Spirit EMS medical transport bus traveling south.<\/p>\n
The cargo van struck a 2013 Dodge sedan, causing both vehicles to catch fire, according to the sheriff\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
Two men in the cargo van were found deceased. Their identities will be released pending examination by the Montgomery County Coroner\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
Crews had to mechanically remove driver of the medical transport bus, 63-year-old Chris Bemis, of St. Marys. CareFlight transported him to Miami Valley Hospital, where Bemis died from his injuries, according to the sheriff\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur hearts and prayers go out to everyone involved in this terrible tragedy,\u201d said Brian K. Hathaway, president and CEO of Spirit EMS. \u201cWe are devastated by the loss of our teammate and deeply saddened for the other families who are grieving today.\u201d<\/p>\n
The driver of the Dodge was able to escape the burning vehicle. She was treated by medics at the scene and released.<\/p>\n
A 12-year-old and 62-year-old aid in the medical transport bus were taken to Wayne Healthcare with non-life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n
Miami Valley Career Technology Center confirmed a student died in the crash.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are deeply saddened by this tragic loss, and our hearts go out to the student\u2019s family, friends and loved ones,\u201d read a statement from Miami Valley CTC. \u201cGrief counselors and support services are available to students and staff who have been affected by this loss, and the district will continue to provide support as long as needed.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hathaway said clergy was brought to the Spirit EMS station to support employees.<\/p>\n
