The projection reflects Florida State’s early conference struggles, but also acknowledges the competitive nature of this matchup when factoring in home-court advantage, recent performances, and advanced efficiency metrics.

Wake Forest brings offensive firepower and depth into the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center, while FSU looks to translate defensive activity and improved shooting into a breakthrough ACC win. As the Seminoles continue navigating a demanding conference slate, Saturday presents an opportunity to challenge the numbers and reset the narrative.

Florida State enters this matchup with a 7-10 overall record and 0-4 in ACC competition, struggling to find traction in league play. Despite that mark, the Seminoles have shown resilience at home, going 7-3 in Tallahassee this season, and have been competitive in several tight games.

Wake Forest arrives in Tallahassee with a 10-7 overall record and 1-3 in ACC play, including a recent 28-point showing from standout guard Nate Calmese in a narrow loss to North Carolina, evidence of the scoring threats FSU must contain. Led in recent games by scorers like Juke Harris, who paces Wake with over 20 points per outing, the Demon Deacons rank as a tough opponent when they find offensive rhythm and clean execution.

ESPN’s model suggests Wake Forest’s depth and recent offensive performances give them the edge overall, particularly if they control tempo and limit turnovers in the paint. However, the Seminoles do have home-court advantage, improving defensive metrics and ability to spread the floor keep this competitive; at 39.3 %, FSU’s chances aren’t negligible and suggest a close game is likely.

For Florida State fans, this “near 40%” projection is a hopeful sign that the Seminoles are competitive in the ACC despite their record — especially at home, where they’ve played more consistently than on the road. For Wake Forest, a win would bolster their league resume and underline their position as a deeper squad in tight ACC matchups.

With tip-off approaching, both teams will look to capitalize on matchups and in-game adjustments. The ESPN Matchup Predictor gives us the numbers — but as with many ACC battles, the on-court execution will decide the winner.

Follow us @FSUWire on X and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Florida State news, notes, and opinions.

Jan. 17, 2026, 7:02 a.m. ET Florida State returns to Tallahassee searching for momentum as it prepares to…

[6
31,47,28,30,29,46616,22151,8913,299,336,89,4532,96,300,46,14372,34
post-121950","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-florida","tag-accessfree","tag-fl","tag-florida","tag-florida-headlines","tag-florida-news","tag-sstssportscollegefsumens-basketball","tag-sstsnmens-basketball","tag-tagbasketball","tag-tagcollege-sports","tag-tagespn-inc","tag-tagflorida-state-university","tag-tagncaa-atlantic-coast-conference","tag-tagoverall-positive","tag-tagsports-news","tag-tagtallahassee","tag-tagwake-forest-university","tag-typestory
["GET
