ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) \u2014 A group of protesters demanded the release of Nicolas Maduro Saturday as they marched around Mirror Lake and downtown St. Petersburg.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe that we, as a United States, should completely get out of Latin America and allow people to live their lives and have sovereignty every day,\u201d Carla Correa, one of the protest organizers, told WFLA.<\/p>\n
Many spoke against President Trump\u2019s actions, including Richie Floyd, the only Democratic Socialist in office in St. Petersburg.<\/p>\n
But Venezuelans across the US argue that the capture of Nicolas Maduro was imperative to stabilize their country, and say the people marching in many cases are not even from their country.<\/p>\n
Elvia Gordils, a native of Venezuela, told us, \u201cIn many cases, the protesters are not even Venezuelan.\u201d<\/p>\n
Protesters continued marching until 6, demanding Maduro\u2019s release.<\/p>\n
Other residents of St. Petersburg told us they believe the fate of Nicolas Maduro should be left in the hands of the United States\u2019 justice system.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u00a0 think that they\u2019ve got to figure out exactly what it was that he was doing, because there are a lot of allegations against him.\u201d Cherie McClelland told us, \u201cSo I fully feel like, you know, they really need to go after him, and he shouldn\u2019t be running that country, if any of that is true.\u201d<\/p>\n
Maduro\u2019s next court date is set for March 17th.<\/p>\n
