Next year the School District of Lee County will implement a comprehensive and purposeful monitoring system, which officials say will help students.<\/p>\n
The three-year assessment evolution is not a one-time change, but rather a cycle of implementation, validation and continuous revision that will shift the focus from testing to a robust culture of assessment literacy.<\/p>\n
The three-year assessment plan will launch in fiscal year 2027 for third through fifth grade math and English Language Arts students. The goal is to focus on providing actionable timely data to inform instruction, have dashboards to provide district leaders with fidelity metrics for usage and progress, expose students to grade-level content, provide communication on performance and standard level and clearly define purpose of each assessment, next steps and remediated learning.<\/p>\n
In fiscal year 2028, the plan will include grades sixth through 10th, again for math and English language arts and then in fiscal year 2029 end-of-course exams for science and social studies will be implemented.<\/p>\n
The new plan will have daily formatives, weekly progress monitoring and quarterly screening to evaluate the overall progress and diagnose specific needs before end of year testing.<\/p>\n
This summer the district will provide a Summer Summit, which is open to 1,000 educators from across the school district. The idea is to bridge disconnected professional development through instructional planning, behavior management and data driven support.<\/p>\n
The core program objectives is foundational planning to address the needs of all learners, creating a positive learning culture, using data assessment to drive target interventions and collaborating with strong family partnerships.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs you can see it is not a one step, one month process,\u201d Superintendent Dr. Denise Carlin said.<\/p>\n
She gave the analogy that if they are assessing children on soccer, they surely better be teaching the foundational skills for soccer.<\/p>\n
Carlin said it is one thing to take a test, but to understand what the results mean about what a child learns and what they did not learn is another.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is why this work is intentional.
