A Palm City family is sorting through uncertainty \u2014 waiting on answers that could determine where their baby girls receive medical care.<\/p>\n
Jessica and Tyler Obenauf first shared their concerns at a recent Let\u2019s Hear It<\/a> community meet-up, where Tyler spoke out about a letter that arrived in their inbox on Nov. 1, 2025 \u2014 warning their insurance coverage could soon change.<\/p>\n WATCH: Waiting on answers, a Martin County family speaks out over insurance coverage for their babies’ care<\/p>\n The letter informed the Obenauf family that Florida Blue members may no longer be covered come March 1, 2026, at the Cleveland Clinic \u2014 one of the nation\u2019s largest health systems \u2014 if ongoing contract negotiations fail. <\/p>\n WPTV reporter Brooke Chau asked the family to describe the last three months of waiting, and Jessica didn\u2019t hesitate.<\/p>\n \u201cDisappointing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Jessica says the news came as a shock. The family has relied on Florida Blue for years, believing it to be widely accepted.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a bit of a slap in the face because we\u2019ve had Florida Blue for years,\u201d she said. \u201cI always thought that was the premier insurance to have.\u201d<\/p>\n Their 9-month-old daughter Cora was diagnosed with torticollis and depends on physical therapy, which is currently covered by their insurance.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t want to fathom having to find another therapist,\u201d Jessica said. \u201cI really hope that we don\u2019t have to.\u201d<\/p>\n If the Obenaufs are forced to change providers, they say care could move miles away \u2014 possibly across county lines \u2014 adding stress, time, and cost.<\/p>\n \u201cIf we do have to uproot and go to physical therapy somewhere else \u2014 Jupiter, West Palm, Palm Beach Gardens, or all the way up to Fort Pierce… that\u2019s an additional strain,\u201d Tyler said.<\/p>\n The family says stalled negotiations between Florida Blue and Cleveland Clinic are putting the burden on parents, not corporations.<\/p>\n \u201cThey\u2019re the ones that can afford to shoulder that debt,\u201d Tyler said. \u201cWe have shouldered enough.\u201d<\/p>\n As for the ongoing contract negotiations, timelines differ. Florida Blue<\/a> says the current contract guarantees member access through at least May 2026. Cleveland Clinic, however, maintains the current agreement could end as soon as March 1, 2026\u2014 which could put the hospital out of network.<\/p>\n
