ROCHESTER, N.Y. \u2014 Children from Camp Good Days and Special Times have returned after a five-day trip to Orlando, Florida, where they visited Universal Studios and Disney World.<\/p>\n
The trip aimed to give 17 children impacted by cancer a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The trip was made possible by the \u201cTeddi Dance for Love,\u201d the annual charity dance marathon at St. John Fisher University. Campers spoke about what the trip meant to them.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat it means to me is a great opportunity to be with other people who\u2019ve gone through something similar,\u201d Maylee Cross, a camper, said.<\/p>\n
Gary Mervis, the founder of Camp Good Days, also spoke about the trip. Mervis founded the nonprofit in honor of his daughter, Teddi, who was diagnosed with brain cancer at age 9 and died three years later.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s\u00a0nothing\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0world\u00a0like\u00a0a\u00a0child\u00a0who\u2019s\u00a0never\u00a0been\u00a0there\u00a0before,\u00a0who\u2019ll\u00a0come\u00a0up\u00a0and\u00a0say\u00a0thank you,\u201d Mervis said.<\/p>\n
Camp Good Days supports more than 1,000 children annually in the Rochester region and beyond who are impacted by cancer. The nonprofit organizes summer camping experiences and year-round events for children, adults, and families.<\/p>\n
