Selecting Jan. 27 for the occasion was not by coincidence. The Auschwitz conception camp was liberated in 1945 on the same date.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, there are people who seem to have either forgotten the lessons of the Holocaust,\u201d Stillman explained, \u201cor maybe they never learned those lessons.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>An accurate and accessible historical account is essential. The museum relies on testimonies, artifacts and documentation to inform visitors, he added. It also offers resources and training for teachers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This can help people better navigate ethical dilemmas in the workplace, at school or at home. More importantly, Stillman said, it may be able to help prevent \u201cfuture atrocities and genocides.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Admission to the museum will be free Jan. 27. Additionally, a variety of public programs are scheduled for the week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Kathrin Meyer, the former secretary general of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, will be giving a presentation on holocaust distortion Jan. 29. Tickets are available<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefhm.org\/event\/combating-holocaust-denial-and-distortion-in-2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> at this link.<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Stillman, who took <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/stpetecatalyst.com\/introducing-eric-stillman-the-new-florida-holocaust-museum-ceo\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">over leadership<\/a> last June, oversaw the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/stpetecatalyst.com\/shared-humanity-dignitaries-celebrate-holocaust-museum-reopening\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">reopening of the institution<\/a> after an extensive renovation. It began to welcome guests again in September.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHistory, Heritage and Hope,\u201d the museum\u2019s core exhibition, received a major redesign. Photo by Mark Parker.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the building has a new entrance with expanded security features and an open-air second-story balcony. More projects are in the works.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Florida Holocaust Museum is home to the Elie Wiesel collection, which includes the Nobel Peace Prize laureate\u2019s personal papers and artifacts. It was <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/stpetecatalyst.com\/how-the-florida-holocaust-museum-secured-the-elie-wiesel-archive\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">selected by his family<\/a> in 2024.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wiesel wrote over 50 books including the memoir Night, which described his experiences at the Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are in the process of cataloging the items and digitizing them and then we will be building out an exhibit called the Wiesel Experience on the third floor,\u201d Stillman said. \u201cIt will allow people to engage with Elie Wiesel and his artifacts in ways that have never been possible before.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>An opening date has not yet been announced. The organization is also creating a traveling exhibition of Wiesel collection items for other Holocaust museums in the U.S.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Stillman and his team are building an immersive theater for the Dimensions in Testimony experience.
