{"id":125443,"date":"2026-01-20T21:52:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-20T21:52:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/125443\/"},"modified":"2026-01-20T21:52:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-20T21:52:10","slug":"florida-council-of-100-recommends-major-upgrades-in-state-severe-weather-prep","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/125443\/","title":{"rendered":"Florida Council of 100 recommends major upgrades in state severe weather prep"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A new report on Florida\u2019s resilience to natural disasters concludes there are key challenges ahead for the state, as well as opportunities to modernize infrastructure to help streamline recovery after an emergency.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Florida Council of 100 (<a href=\"https:\/\/fc100.org\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">FC 100<\/a>), made up of of business leaders who analyze some of the biggest challenges facing the state, published a report called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/fc100.org\/research\/resilience-reimagined-modern-policy-and-innovation-for-a-stronger-florida\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Resilience Reimagined: Modern Policy and Innovation for a Stronger Florida<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The document analyzes how long-term economic competitiveness can expand in the face of severe weather endemic to the state. The report concludes that even as hurricanes, flooding and other severe weather events are part of Florida living, resilience can become an economic component as well as an environmental effort.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFlorida\u2019s future will be defined by how well we prepare for and respond to storms\u00a0and flooding,\u201d said\u00a0George S. LeMieux, Chair of\u00a0FC 100. \u201cResilience is not just about repairing damage. It\u00a0is about protecting our economy, safeguarding communities, and ensuring Florida\u00a0remains\u00a0one of the most competitive places in the world to live and do business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some of the key findings in the report, published Tuesday, include warnings that failure to invest in storm preparedness will result in lost economic activity, business closings and disruption to the job market, while insurance costs could rise.
