The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office provided an update on Tuesday regarding two recent cases, including the recent arrest of a South Florida truck driver accused of murder.<\/p>\n

Deputies previously announced on Saturday<\/a> that Olson Jean, 41, of Pompano Beach, faces a charge of first-degree murder with a firearm and tampering with evidence.<\/p>\n

Investigators said his arrest stems from the death of Wendy Moncion, 32, of Coconut Creek, Florida.<\/p>\n

Jean was taken into custody last week<\/a> after a report of a suspicious person behind a Pilot truck stop located near South Rock Road in Fort Pierce.<\/p>\n

Deputies found Jean near a semi that appeared to have left the roadway and entered a ditch while attempting to turn around abruptly.<\/p>\n

Investigators said they found blood inside the cab of the semi near the passenger-side door, as well as blood on the exterior passenger-side area of the vehicle.<\/p>\n

After obtaining a warrant, St. Lucie County Sheriff Richard Del Toro said Moncion’s body was found the next day inside a storage compartment beneath a bedding area in the back of the semi.<\/p>\n

The sheriff said the medical examiner conducted an autopsy and determined the cause of death to be a single gunshot wound to the back of Moncion’s head.<\/p>\n

Del Toro said the suspect and victim were cousins and were traveling from Georgia to Florida when the shooting occurred.<\/p>\n

The sheriff said deputies canvassed the area near South Rock Road and recovered a rifle, a handgun and magazines.<\/p>\n

“The firearms and magazines were located near a canal and appear to have been intentionally placed there,” Del Toro said.<\/p>\n

Del Toro also complimented the caller who first alerted them about Jean’s suspicious activities.<\/p>\n

“That call was critical and set this investigation in motion, reinforcing the importance of our see something, say something message. I can’t stress that enough how important that was to this case,” Del Toro said.<\/p>\n

Jean remains in custody at the St. Lucie County Jail without bond. He also faces a charge of resisting an officer without violence.<\/p>\n

UNRELATED CASE INVOLVING 4 TEENS SHOT<\/p>\n

The sheriff’s office also shared more details after four teens were hurt during a firearm transaction that resulted in gunfire near Fort Pierce on Sunday.<\/a><\/p>\n

Del Toro said six people met on Avenue R after they were conversing on a messaging app about selling the weapon.<\/p>\n

The sheriff’s office says the prospective buyers were two 18-year-olds and a 17-year-old, who arrived on Avenue R in a black Mercedes. The sellers were a 17-year-old, a 16-year-old and another unidentified individual.<\/p>\n

Investigators said the seller kept changing the location and eventually shots were fired.<\/p>\n

Detectives say they found 30 shell casings at the scene.<\/p>\n

The sheriff said one shooter ran away from the scene to a home on 37th Street. That’s where investigators later performed a search warrant and found five rifles and three handguns, one potentially used in the shooting.<\/p>\n

The four injured teens were taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital and are in stable condition.<\/p>\n

“We’re trying to put together who had what firearms. Kids this age in possession of firearms, doing an illegal transaction, these kids are in school, that concerns me. It’s something that we have to be paying attention to as parents,” Del Toro said. <\/p>\n

Del Toro said they’re still trying to confirm the identity of that sixth person involved in the shooting.<\/p>\n
