Cape Coral residents have long been familiar with the Seven Islands development project, and Wednesday marks the final opportunity for locals to voice their opinions to city leaders.<\/p>\n
The ambitious plans for this 47-acre plot of land include condos, apartments, restaurants, and shops. However, the project has sparked a mix of excitement and concern among residents.<\/p>\n
Josh Boyd, a Cape Coral resident, shared his mixed feelings about the development.<\/p>\n
“I would love to have property values in this area bring in more thing to do here up in the northwest,” said Boyd. “We don’t have a lot to do, so bring in amenities, bring in shops, restaurants, more boating and more people.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
Boyd also highlighted the potential concerns of the development.<\/p>\n
“I’ve seen a panther, bobcats, all sorts of wildlife go for tortoises,” said Boyd. “I don’t want to see that land become concrete. So I’m torn.”<\/p>\n
Debbie Mariner, another resident, expressed enthusiasm for the convenience the development could bring.<\/p>\n
“All the little shops would be great, and our house is across the street,” said Mariner. “We could just walk over and go have dinner or go shopping.”<\/p>\n
Concerns about increased traffic have also been voiced by some residents.<\/p>\n
“I’m worried about the traffic,” said an anonymous resident. “It’s a quaint little town, so I don’t know. I’m a little iffy on it.”<\/p>\n
Renderings of the Seven Islands waterfront development reveal plans for apartments, condos, and a ten-story hotel. The development will also feature retail shops, waterfront restaurants, a public marina with boat slips, and a community center.<\/p>\n
Mayor John Gunter expressed hope that the project will bring more options to the area.<\/p>\n
The final public hearing for the project will take place during the city council meeting at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. This hearing is the last step before potentially approving the development agreement between the city and the developer, Gulf Gateway Resort & Marina Village.<\/p>\n
