Stormwater conservation project launched for Pinecrest<\/p>\n
LARGO \u2013 The city of Largo has begun the Pinecrest Stormwater Conservation Area project, a major infrastructure investment that will convert the former Pinecrest Golf Course into a regional stormwater facility to address flood risk and water quality concerns in the McKay Creek watershed.<\/p>\n
The project is made possible thanks to a state appropriation secured during the 2025 legislative session.<\/p>\n
At the Jan. 6 City Commission meeting, state Rep. Berny Jacques presented a ceremonial check for $950,000 representing the state funding secured through the Florida Local Funding Initiative. This contribution will support the design and permitting phase of the PSCA project.<\/p>\n
Located at 1200 Eighth Ave. SW, the 26.7-acre site is designed to deliver long-term environmental benefits by reducing flood risks in nearby neighborhoods and the Medical Arts District, improving drainage and public safety and enhancing water quality in McKay Creek.<\/p>\n
“This is the largest stormwater investment in Largo\u2019s history,” said City Manager John Curp. “Thanks to Rep. Jacques, we are able to begin the design phase for a project that protects our residents, strengthens infrastructure, and improves our local environment.”<\/p>\n
The project also lays the groundwork for future projects, including the potential creation of a passive park with nature trails and educational features. Funding for park elements is not yet secured.<\/p>\n

The public can participate in the races or simply come out to enjoy the festivities.<\/p>\n Event registration includes a race bib for 5K participants, a race t-shirt, and one complimentary beverage and a meal ticket redeemable at participating food trucks.<\/p>\n
