Oct. 20 (UPI) — Florida State will assess its football program, including coach Mike Norvell’s future, after the 2025 season, athletic director Michael Alford announced Monday.<\/p>\n
Norvell has a 36-31 record over six seasons with the Seminoles, who are 3-4 this season. The team, which was 13-1 in 2023, are 5-14 over the last two seasons. They are 1-11 in ACC matchups during that span.\n<\/p>\n
“We rightfully have high expectations in everything we do to represent Florida State in the manner that built our reputation as one of college football’s best programs, cultivating an extraordinary group of supporters nationally and globally,” Alford said.<\/p>\n
“We embrace those expectations while also sharing the deep disappointment when results on the field are short of that standard.\n<\/p>\n
“As we continue to move forward this season, our comprehensive assessment of the football program will be completed at season’s end. Meanwhile, we are fully committed to helping coach Norvell and the 2025 Seminoles strongly rebound in the coming weeks.”<\/p>\n
Norvell’s 2025 Seminoles rank No. 10 out of 136 NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) teams in points per game. They rank 52nd in points allowed.\n<\/p>\n
The Seminoles signed Norvell to a new, eight-year contract, which paid him more than $8 million annually, in 2023. They have since restructured that deal. If the Seminoles split with Norvell, they would owe him a buyout of about $54 million.<\/p>\n
