CRAWFORDVILLE, Fla. (WCTV) -Tuesday night in Wakulla county, the school board addressed overcrowding issues at Crawfordville Elementary School.<\/p>\n
\u200bThey hosted a town hall meeting to talk about solutions and allow parents and community members to share their opinions.<\/p>\n
\u200bThe school board says current student enrollment at the elementary school is 709. The building\u2019s capacity is 699. To address the issue the district has come up with four possible options.<\/p>\n
Those are, revoking out-of-zone requests, changing school zone boundaries, building a new school or adding classrooms.<\/p>\n
Some parents say these changes could have a big impact on their families.<\/p>\n
\u200bKyle Gibbs, a Crawfordville community member, who has children at the elementary school attended Tuesday night\u2019s meeting.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve got a kid in fourth grade, and a kid that just started there, and this rezoning is going to affect us. it\u2019s going to move them back to 7 miles away,\u201d Gibbs said. <\/p>\n
\u200bThe Wakulla county schools superintendent, Richard Myhre says he heard those concerns and took time Tuesday night to answer questions.<\/p>\n
He said the district is looking at the big picture.<\/p>\n
\u201cResponsible growth is a good thing, and you certainly would rather have the challenge of growth than have students leaving your school district and having to close schools, and so those concerns are valid. the reality is we may be blessed with a fifth elementary school,\u201d said Myhre. <\/p>\n
The superintendent says this is all part of planning ahead and nothing would take effect until next school year.<\/p>\n
He says the next step is making a recommendation to the school board next month.<\/p>\n
