(WCTV\/Gray Florida Capital Bureau) &#8211; A Senate committee approved Wednesday an expansion of the state\u2019s E-Verify law as part of a larger <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2026\/00998\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2026\/00998\">Department of Commerce bill<\/a> targeting employers who hire people living in the country illegally.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The bill would require companies to keep E-Verify records. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">If the Commerce Department finds a business is not complying with the law, it would have a 30-day grace period before fines could be imposed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-center article-text\">Florida politics:<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Senate bill does not go as far as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flhouse.gov\/Sections\/Bills\/billsdetail.aspx?BillId=82726\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.flhouse.gov\/Sections\/Bills\/billsdetail.aspx?BillId=82726\">legislation the House passed<\/a> last week, which would require all private employers to use E-Verify.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2026 WCTV.
