A woman who was detained after a man was shot and killed in Miami-Dade on Wednesday<\/a> was arrested and charged with murder after the sheriff’s office said she admitted to the crime.<\/p>\n

The deadly incident began to unfold just after 3:30 a.m. Wednesday when deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office<\/a> responded to a ShotSpotter<\/a> alert in the 5100 block of Northwest 29th Avenue.<\/p>\n

Deputies said that when they arrived, they found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue<\/a> and was pronounced dead a short time later.<\/p>\n

At the time, a woman was detained in connection to the deadly shooting. The sheriff’s office said she has since been arrested and charged with second degree murder.<\/p>\n

According to an arrest report, 29-year-old Janiece Michelle Santamaria admitting to shooting the victim in the parking lot after they had been arguing throughout the evening.<\/p>\n

After the shooting, Santamaria went back to her apartment and returned to the parking lot when first responders arrived, the arrest report says.<\/p>\n

According to deputies, Santamaria was in possession of a gun in her purse, and she allegedly told investigators it was the one she used to shoot the unidentified victim.<\/p>\n

Santamaria was taken to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Homicide Bureau for questioning, and that’s when she allegedly admitted to the crime after she was provided her Miranda rights.<\/p>\n

She was arrested and charged with murder in the second degree with a weapon.<\/p>\n

Santamaria appeared in bond court on Thursday.<\/p>\n

“You were arrested for one count of 2nd degree murder from yesterday January 21,” Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Mindy Glazer said. “I will appoint a public defender for you.”<\/p>\n

Glazer also said there was probable cause for the charge.<\/p>\n

“I am going to grant the state’s motion for pre-trial detention pending a hearing,” Glazer said.<\/p>\n

Santamaria is being held without bond and will see another judge on Friday.<\/p>\n

Miami-Dade police Det. Theresa Luaces made a brief appearance in bond court and was asked if the homicide was due to a gunshot wound. \u00a0“Was the homicide due to a gunshot wound?”\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Yes,” Luaces replied.<\/p>\n

The Miami-Dade Sheriffs Office has not released the name of the victim because they are still trying to reach his next of kin.\u00a0<\/p>\n
