ORLANDO, Fla. \u2013 A medical examiner\u2019s report has revealed the cause of death for a 70-year-old woman who died after riding Universal Orlando\u2019s Revenge of the Mummy roller coaster in November.<\/p>\n
Ma De La Luz Mejia Rosas died on Nov. 25 at a local hospital following her experience on the ride. News 6 first reported the death<\/a> after Universal included it in their quarterly theme park injury report to the Florida Department of Agriculture.<\/p>\n According to the medical examiner\u2019s findings, Rosas succumbed to a \u201cruptured aneurysm without trauma.\u201d<\/p>\n Located at Universal Studios, Revenge of the Mummy is a popular indoor roller coaster known for its intense drops and special effects. The attraction\u2019s safety guidelines warn guests with heart conditions, high blood pressure, and back or neck problems not to ride.<\/p>\n Following the incident, Rosas\u2019 family retained prominent civil rights attorney Ben Crump<\/a>, who recently represented another family in a death investigation at Universal\u2019s Epic Universe<\/a> involving the Stardust Racers attraction in September.<\/p>\n [WATCH: Incident report sheds new light on Stardust Racers death at Epic Universe]<\/p>\n Prior to the medical examiner\u2019s findings, Crump\u2019s law firm stated the family was \u201cseeking answers and full transparency regarding the circumstances surrounding her death, including information related to the ride\u2019s operations, safety protocols, maintenance history, and any available incident data.\u201d<\/p>\n Emergency medicine physician Dr. Rajiv Bahl, who is not connected to the case, said brain aneurysms can rupture spontaneously.<\/p>\n \u201cA brain aneurysm can rupture at any time,\u201d Bahl said. \u201cA brain aneurysm by itself is not actually life-threatening. It\u2019s only when they rupture.\u201d<\/p>\n Bahl said about 1 in 50 Americans are living with a brain aneurysm, and older women with high blood pressure face a higher risk of rupture.<\/p>\n \u201cWith her being 70 years old, she certainly has the age factor,\u201d Bahl said. \u201cShe\u2019s also a woman, as well. With so many people having high blood pressure, that\u2019s always a possibility.\u201d<\/p>\n Universal\u2019s ride safety guidelines warn guests with heart conditions, high blood pressure, or back or neck problems not to ride the attraction. <\/p>\n Bahl said moments of excitement, such as riding a roller coaster, can cause temporary spikes in heart rate and blood pressure.<\/p>\n \u201cIn a moment of excitement like on a roller coaster, you can develop momentary high blood pressure and a high heart rate,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n News 6 has reached out to Crump\u2019s office to ask whether Rosas was aware of any pre-existing medical conditions and whether the family believes the ride contributed to her death.
