Miami’s most celebrated casual sushi spot, Midorie (the reigning Best Sushi winner of 2025 by New Times), has just announced it’s expanding to Fort Lauderdale for its very first Broward County location.

Beloved for its minimalist aesthetic, Tokyo-sourced seafood, and quietly obsessive attention to detail, Midorie has built a cult following with locations in Coconut Grove and MiMo along 79th Street. The restaurant feels refreshingly unfussy, yet deeply intentional. In Coconut Grove, it’s known for its mint-green walls, a compact sushi counter, a sunny courtyard vibe, and a menu that lets pristine fish do all the talking.

Bites at Midorie in Coconut Grove

What Makes Midorie So Special

Midorie’s seafood is flown in regularly from Tokyo’s Toyosu Fish Market, showing up in handrolls, nigiri, sashimi, cut rolls, and donburi bowls that somehow feel both comforting and elevated.

If you’re a first-timer, the “Midorie Bowl” is the move: salmon, tuna, blue crab, shiitake mushrooms, cucumber, edamame, yuzu avocado, scallions, seaweed salad, and your choice of base and sauce. It’s no surprise New Times crowned Midorie Best Sushi last year; the quality is undeniable, and the experience is effortlessly cool.

The maki, determinedly classic and unfancy, are constructed with great care. Look for daily specials, cooked-fish creations, and, for dessert, a handful of mochi ice cream flavors, including matcha green tea and salted caramel.

Rendering of the upcoming Midorie in Fort Lauderdale

What to Expect at Midorie Fort Lauderdale

Now, that experience is heading north. Midorie Fort Lauderdale is slated to open in June 2026 at 640 NW 7th Ave., inside the Arcadian, a new mixed-use development in the historic Sistrunk District. The upcoming location will seat about 50 guests, including an eight-seat sushi counter, a 34-seat dining room, and an intimate private space called the Sakura Room. The menu will mirror Miami’s hits, including its popular $100 omakase, served all at once, ideal for power lunches, celebratory dinners, or an imposing takeout order.

The expansion comes from APM Restaurant Group and acclaimed restaurateur Álvaro Perez Miranda, whose portfolio also includes Hiyakawa and Michelin-starred Ogawa. At its core, Midorie is built around kikubari, the Japanese philosophy of caring for others, and that thoughtful hospitality has clearly struck a chord.

For Broward diners, this is a big deal. Midorie is quietly becoming a South Florida staple, and honestly, we love to see it.

Midorie Fort Lauderdale. 640 NW Seventh Ave., Fort Lauderdale, at the Arcadian; midoriemiami.com.
