{"id":129487,"date":"2026-01-23T18:58:48","date_gmt":"2026-01-23T18:58:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/129487\/"},"modified":"2026-01-23T18:58:48","modified_gmt":"2026-01-23T18:58:48","slug":"dredging-project-to-begin-next-month-at-johns-pass","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/129487\/","title":{"rendered":"Dredging project to begin next month at John&#8217;s Pass"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. \u2014 A long-delayed project to dredge all the sand that has been choking John\u2019s Pass for years will start next month.<\/p>\n<p>City officials said Friday that work will begin Feb. 9 and that the project will take anywhere from 60 to 90 days to complete.<\/p>\n<p>It will remove up to 12,900 cubic yards of sand from John\u2019s Pass.<\/p>\n<p>Madeira Beach city commissioners approved a $1.5 million contract last month for the work.<\/p>\n<p>The sand has created dangerous swimming conditions.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/baynews9.com\/fl\/tampa\/news\/2020\/08\/26\/mayor-warns-john-s-pass-is-filling-in-with-sand\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Former Madeira Beach Mayor John Hendricks first warned the public<\/a>\u00a0about the sand buildup problem in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Spectrum Bay News 9 reported in December that it has since become the number one spot for water rescues in the county.<\/p>\n<p>The project has taken years to get off the ground.<\/p>\n<p>State Rep.
