SUNRISE, Fla. \u2014 Police have made an arrest nearly a year and a half after they said a man was shot in both arms near a billard hall in Lauderhill. <\/p>\n
Sunrise police said Shane Ball, 36, was arrested Wednesday in connection with the shooting and faces one count of premeditated attempted murder.<\/p>\n
On July 14, 2024, investigators said the victim told them that he had gone to Classic Billiards, located at 4569 North Uniiversity Dr., after work to relax and had no conflicts with anyone. <\/p>\n
While seated at the bar, the victim observed Ball speaking to the bartender and \u201ctalking crazy,\u201d claiming he had \u201ccaught 35 bodies,\u201d a slang term commonly used to mean having killed multiple people, according to the report. <\/p>\n
The victim and another patron asked Ball to calm down, but he continued ranting before stepping outside.<\/p>\n
The report stated that other patrons later reported that Ball pulled out a gun earlier in the night, although the victim did not see it himself. <\/p>\n
When Ball returned to the bar, he \u201cremoved a handgun from his waistband, and cocked it while continuing to rant at patrons,\u201d police wrote. They said Ball left the bar shortly after in a dark-colored vehicle.<\/p>\n
About 20 minutes later, as the victim drove home, police reported that Ball\u2019s car cut in front of him and collided with his front bumper. They said Ball then fired multiple shots, striking the victim in both arms, and caused him to crash into a light pole near the 2400 block of Pine Island Road in Sunrise. <\/p>\n
The victim told police he had not provoked the shooting and was unsure how many people were in Ball\u2019s vehicle.<\/p>\n
Investigators said they identified Ball through surveillance video at the bar, license plate reader data, credit card receipts, and multiple eyewitness identifications. <\/p>\n
Witnesses said they had seen Ball at the bar on previous occasions and described him as generally \u201cfriendly,\u201d but believed that he was intoxicated on the night of the shooting, consuming Hennessy mixed with Red Bull, according to the report. <\/p>\n
When interviewed by detectives, Ball acknowledged being at the billiard hall but repeatedly claimed he could not remember the events, citing reasons including \u201cfamily members casting spells on him, the CIA erasing his memory,\u201d and \u201cprior mental health issues.\u201d <\/p>\n
Regarding his gun, Ball told investigators, \u201cIf I do something like that or pull out my gun like that, I\u2019m letting you know I\u2019m gonna spank you,\u201d the report stated. <\/p>\n
He also stated that displaying a weapon is a reaction when someone is \u201ctalking s—\u201d or making him \u201cfeel some type of way,\u201d which could lead him to challenge the other person to \u201ccome outside,\u201d the report stated. <\/p>\n
Police said they eventually recovered two .40-caliber Smith & Wesson guns from Ball and three spent shell casings from his vehicle. Forensic testing confirmed that a projectile recovered from the scene was fired from one of his guns, authorities said. <\/p>\n
They said one witness reported that the shooting occurred approximately 40 minutes after Ball had displayed the gun and told the victim, \u201cYou wouldn\u2019t know what to do if somebody shot at you,\u201d while also boasting he had \u201c35 bodies under his belt.\u201d<\/p>\n
As of Friday, Ball was being held without bond at the Broward County Main Jail. <\/p>\n
A motive for the shooting is unclear at this time. <\/p>\n
