I had concerns about the level of air traffic in the skies above the Cape. So I contacted the Lee County Port Authority and spoke with a representative.<\/p>\n
What I learned was that much of the traffic is from the Flight Training Centers at Page Field in Fort Myers.\u00a0 They have many domestic and foreign student pilots from many locations.\u00a0 And they like to fly over the Cape due, at least in part, to the canals.\u00a0 Apparently the student pilots appreciate the orientation of the canals.\u00a0 Well and good for the pilots.\u00a0 Maybe less good for residents on the ground.\u00a0 Experiencing the frequent airplane noise.\u00a0 It\u2019s also less than ideal with student pilots conducting flight training over the town\u2019s densely populated areas.<\/p>\n
I encourage the pilot instructors to fly the students over more sparsely populated areas than the Cape.\u00a0 There are such areas towards the interior.<\/p>\n
If readers share my concerns, I suggest contacting the mayor\u2019s office and\/or their council member.<\/p>\n
