Michael Irvin said his phone was blowing up with messages letting him know that some thought he was high on cocaine during the national championship game Monday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Dallas Cowboy legendary wide receiver, who is a proud Hurricanes alum, was trolled over his \u201cbelt-to-ass\u201d celebration<\/a> and sideline antics as Miami\u2019s unofficial hype man at the College Football Playoff (CFP) title game \u2014 a 27-21 Indiana win.<\/p>\n

During his new Netflix podcast, \u201cThe White House,\u201d Irvin explained that \u201cI hadn\u2019t partaken in 20 years\u201d and denied taking any drugs on the sideline.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m right there in front of the camera for five hours,\u201d Irvin said. \u201cSo after the game, I do a little belt thing and everyone sends me all that \u2014 \u2018Man, Mike right now, he coked out!\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026 I\u2019m like, Wait a minute y\u2019all. First of all, y\u2019all know damn well coke don\u2019t last five hours. I hadn\u2019t partaken in 20 years, but if you got some five-hour stuff, let me know \u2026 Stop it! Stop saying this stuff.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I used to get high, that\u2019s exactly what I would say. No matter who I saw, [I would say], \u2018Oh, he high too.\u2019 \u2026 And you want everyone to be high because you\u2019re high.\u201d<\/p>\n

Irvin\u2019s sideline antics aren\u2019t new, though it\u2019s likely the first time some of the 30.1 million viewers for the national championship game were exposed to it.<\/p>\n

The three-time Super Bowl champ \u2014 who helped Miami to a national championship in 1987 \u2014 usually is on all fours and screaming at Hurricanes games, as he was at the Fiesta Bowl earlier this month.<\/p>\n

\u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d spoofed Irvin in its \u201cWeekend Update\u201d segment<\/a> with a hilarious parody by comedian Kam Patterson ahead of the CFP national championship game.<\/p>\n

Irvin starred for Miami before being drafted by the Cowboys with the No. 11 pick in the 1988 NFL Draft.<\/p>\n

He opened up about his past with cocaine<\/a> in \u201cAmerica\u2019s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys\u201d \u2014 the Netflix documentary that delves into the history of Jerry Jones\u2019 ownership in the 1990s.<\/p>\n

Irvin recalled when he was indicted on felony cocaine possession in March 1996 and faced up to 20 years in prison if convicted.<\/p>\n

He pleaded no contest to felony cocaine possession in exchange for four years of deferred probation, a $10,000 fine and dismissal of misdemeanor marijuana possession charges after police found the All-Pro wideout with a few others in a Texas hotel room littered with cocaine and marijuana.<\/p>\n

Irvin ultimately took a deal and got probation\u00a0with restrictions and conditions.
