On Tuesday, Universal Orlando Resort announced Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift was coming to Universal Studios Florida<\/a>. The coaster will replace Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, which closed last summer. Construction<\/a> already confirmed the new ride would be a roller coaster. <\/p>\n

Fast & Furious Coaster Construction\"Coaster\"Coaster<\/a><\/p>\n

Coaster construction is visible from CityWalk. A walkway is still available around the construction zone, but it takes up a considerable amount of space, not just the former Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit footprint. The former Blue Man Group theater is untouched at the back of the site.<\/p>\n

There are several construction vehicles, including excavators. There hasn\u2019t been much visible vertical construction, but concrete footers topped with wood boxes are dotted throughout the site.<\/p>\n

We got another look at construction progress from Hard Rock Cafe.<\/p>\n

Some metal poles have been installed in the ground. These are surrounded by temporary yellow fencing. One crew member was operating an excavator nearby. <\/p>\n

\"Behind\"Behind<\/a><\/p>\n

Behind the fenced-off area are a series of completed concrete footers and forms. The tall forms are in place to cast more concrete footers.<\/p>\n

The pavement has been torn away right up to the overhang outside the theater. Under the overhang are tool boxes. <\/p>\n

Closer to Hard Rock Cafe are metal cylindrical frames, also for future footers. There are several wooden planks and boxes piled nearby.<\/p>\n

Sheets of metal framing are stacked next to a hole in the ground blocked by caution tape and barriers.<\/p>\n

Some metal frames are standing around footers near the edge of the construction zone. In front of those is what looks like the beginning of a wall.<\/p>\n

Closer to the Universal Studios Florida entrance, another section of land is surrounded by caution tape. Inside this circle is a deep hole, some concrete footers, and a flat swath of concrete.<\/p>\n

Most of the construction vehicles not in active use on our Thursday visit were parked near the CityWalk path.<\/p>\n

Inside Universal Studios Florida, the front construction wall at the end of this New York City street has been covered by a Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift graphic. It features a picture of Dominic Toretto\u2019s 1970 Dodge Charger R\/T.<\/p>\n

\"\"\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The green walls are still visible on the sides with their various themed flyers and signs. In a backstage area beyond these walls, a building is starting to take shape.<\/p>\n

\"\"\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Right now, it\u2019s just a steel framework. Some horizontal roof beams have been installed. Crew members in cranes were working on the building. In the background is the Hogwarts Express on its track.<\/p>\n

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift\"Aerial\"Aerial<\/a><\/p>\n

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is also under construction at Universal Studios Hollywood. It has 4,100 feet of track,\u00a0sound reduction technology<\/a>, and 360-degree rotation to create the sensation of drifting. The Florida version won\u2019t be the same, but is expected to be similar. The California version will open this year, and the Florida version will open in 2027.<\/p>\n

With the opening of Hollywood Drift, the\u00a0infamously bad<\/a>\u00a0Fast & Furious: Supercharged will permanently close in 2027. The California version of Supercharged<\/a> closed last year.<\/p>\n
