Here\u2019s what the law says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">ORLANDO, Fla. \u2013 Many drivers in the Sunshine State are likely familiar with hearing other cars blare their music while at an intersection or in transit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">While these sorts of situations may be annoying to some, they underlie a bigger question: is it actually legal?<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 kNAFkD cuqaEv article-text\">To answer this question, we can head back to 2022, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clickorlando.com\/news\/politics\/2022\/06\/24\/playing-loud-music-in-your-car-new-florida-law-could-get-you-a-ticket\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.clickorlando.com\/news\/politics\/2022\/06\/24\/playing-loud-music-in-your-car-new-florida-law-could-get-you-a-ticket\/\">when a new law surrounding this issue took effect<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">According to that law, drivers who play sound too loudly from any of the following devices could receive a ticket:<\/p>\n<p>Radio<\/p>\n<p>Tape player<\/p>\n<p>Compact disc player<\/p>\n<p>Portable music or video player<\/p>\n<p>Cell phone<\/p>\n<p>Tablet computer<\/p>\n<p>Laptop computer<\/p>\n<p>Stereo<\/p>\n<p>Television<\/p>\n<p>Musical instrument<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 kNAFkD cuqaEv article-text\">To qualify, the sound must be \u201cplainly audible\u201d at a distance of 25 feet or more from the vehicle, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leg.state.fl.us\/statutes\/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&amp;Search_String=&amp;URL=0300-0399\/0316\/Sections\/0316.3045.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.leg.state.fl.us\/statutes\/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&amp;Search_String=&amp;URL=0300-0399\/0316\/Sections\/0316.3045.html\">the law states<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 kNAFkD cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cThere is no specific way or tool to measure this,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clickorlando.com\/traffic\/2022\/06\/30\/trooper-steve-explains-new-florida-law-about-loud-music-in-cars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.clickorlando.com\/traffic\/2022\/06\/30\/trooper-steve-explains-new-florida-law-about-loud-music-in-cars\/\">Trooper Steve said after the law took effect<\/a>. \u201cSimply put, if an officer can hear the music from the vehicle from over 25 feet, then there is a violation. It does not matter what type of music, it does not matter if your windows are up; the law is very simple.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">In addition, this law applies if the sound is \u201clouder than necessary for the convenient hearing by persons inside the vehicle\u201d in places near private homes, churches, hospitals and schools.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">[BELOW: Can I drive barefoot in Florida?]<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cPeople have a right to worship and to education and, especially, peace within their communities,\u201d Trooper Steve added. \u201cLet\u2019s be real: the majority of society does not want to hear vulgar or loud music while they\u2019re driving down the road. You do have the right to listen to whatever you want, but we collectively don\u2019t have the right to disturb others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 kNAFkD cuqaEv article-text\">That being said, these same rules don\u2019t apply to emergency vehicles or people using their horns to warn other vehicles <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leg.state.fl.us\/statutes\/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&amp;Search_String=&amp;URL=0300-0399\/0316\/Sections\/0316.271.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.leg.state.fl.us\/statutes\/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&amp;Search_String=&amp;URL=0300-0399\/0316\/Sections\/0316.271.html\">in line with other Florida statutes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 kNAFkD cuqaEv article-text\">[BELOW: Can I legally sleep in my car?]<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">While violations of these rules aren\u2019t criminal, they can be met with fines of around $114-$116, depending on which county the offense occurred.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cI have been asked, \u2018Is this law going to be a new way to be hassled by law enforcement?\u2019\u201d Trooper Steve continued. \u201cI understand the question, so let me explain my perspective. I truly think this is simply giving law enforcement another tool on their belt in order to allow peace in communities.
