Could 2027 bring a return of the impeachment theatrics that animated President\u00a0Donald Trump\u2019s<\/a> first term?<\/p>\n

Gov.\u00a0Ron DeSantis<\/a> thinks that if Democrats regain control of the House, it\u2019s likely the new majority would \u201cfabricate another impeachment\u201d over the immigration issue \u201cto be able to throw sand in the gears to prevent the President from being able to discharge the duties to which he was elected.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump was impeached both in 2019 for alleged obstruction of Congress regarding Ukraine, and in 2021 for allegedly inciting insurrection on Jan. 6, when supporters descended on the U.S. Capitol and delayed the certification of the 2020 Presidential Election. Trump has said<\/a> Democrats would impeach him again if they flipped Congress.<\/p>\n

State Legislatures across the country have taken action to create more aggressively partisan congressional delegations with rare mid-decade redistricting efforts, an effort that may ultimately shape the House more than the campaign cycle itself. Florida will be among states reapportioning House seats, DeSantis has promised, with a Special Session<\/a> to happen after a Supreme Court decision on the constitutionality of minority access districts.<\/p>\n

During DeSantis\u2019 interview that aired Sunday night on \u201cLife, Liberty & Levin<\/a>,\u201d he also ripped \u201cresistance courts\u201d for trying to impede the kind of aggressive immigration enforcement he says voters chose when they elected Trump.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt isn\u2019t like immigration wasn\u2019t a very big issue in that election. He promised to secure the border, and he promised that he would effectuate the largest deportation effort in American history. That was very clear to anyone who paid even 30 seconds of attention to that campaign. The resistance Judges and the Democrats, basically, don\u2019t want to honor the people\u2019s will.\u201d<\/p>\n

Also during Sunday\u2019s segment, DeSantis addressed what he called the \u201csuicidal\u201d tendency to allow immigration from leaders who \u201cwant to bring Islamism to America to be able to impose that on their societies.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTo bring people in from foreign countries, they\u2019ve got to be compatible with the society they\u2019re coming in, our society, and they\u2019ve got to want to be an American,\u201d DeSantis said.<\/p>\n

The Governor hopes the Legislature will give him more authority to designate groups as being linked to terrorism, as he has with the Muslim Brotherhood and the Council on American-Islamic Relations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe reality is, all those people you\u2019re talking about, many of them are getting funding from some of those groups. And we\u2019re going to use all the tools at our disposal to stop it in Florida,\u201d DeSantis said.<\/p>\n
