Gladieux on Feb. 2.<\/p>\n<p>The Sanibel Public Library provides a variety of programming for adults and children.<\/p>\n<p>Malacology 101 will take place on Jan. 29 from 11 a.m. to noon with Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum and Aquarium marine biologist and collection assistant Chris Witt. He will break down the basics of mollusks and shelling, and why the soft-bodied creatures with hard shells are way cooler than one might think. Witt has spent the last four years sharing his passion for mollusks with the public, especially through the \u201cMollusks on the Move\u201d program, which reaches over 15,000 youths each year.<\/p>\n<p>On Feb. 2, Chat with an Author: Michelle D. Gladieux will be held from from 11 a.m. to noon. A communication expert, she will lead an interactive session focused on helping attendees become braver, more effective communicators. Drawing from her book, \u201cCommunicate with Courage,\u201d Gladieux will share practical strategies to overcome four hidden challenges that often hinder everyday communication and workplace interactions. The free program is being presented by the library and Charitable Foundation of the Islands. Registration is required at <a href=\"http:\/\/sanlib.org\/calendar\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sanlib.org\/calendar<\/a>; the first 50 registered will receive her book. \u201cCommunicate with Courage\u201d is the winner of 11 literary awards.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving the Storms \u2014 Hurricanes, Humans &amp; Wildlife will take place on Feb. 3 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Charles Sobczak. The in-depth presentation will look at the impact major hurricanes have had on properties, landscapes and wildlife. An award-winning author of fiction and non-fiction, he has been a featured speaker with Road Scholars for over 20 years. Sobczak has also appeared on Book TV and has lectured for organizations like the Conservancy of Southwest Florida, \u201cDing\u201d Darling Wildlife Society-Friends of the Refuge, and Harvard Club.<\/p>\n<p>On Feb. 4, The Doctor is No Longer In will be held from 11 a.m. to noon. Dr. MaryAnn Wilbur, of Sanibel, will present highlights from her book, \u201cThe Doctor is No Longer In.\u201d A book signing will follow; participants can bring their own copy or some will be available for purchase.<\/p>\n<p>WEEKLY PROGRAMMING<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Crafternoon: Wednesdays from 3 to 4:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Make a fun and engaging craft with staff guidance. All supplies provided. Open to all ages.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Family Storytime: Fridays and Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>Bring the whole family to enjoy stories, songs, movement and early literacy play centers that spark creativity and motor skills. Open to babies and toddlers and their caregivers.<\/p>\n<p>Library cards are available to residents of Sanibel and Lee County at no charge. Visitor library cards are available for a $10 annual fee. Beginning on Feb. 2, the following updates will go into effect:<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Longer checkout periods: Materials will  have a three-week loan period instead of two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Automatic renewals: Items checked out will automatically renew twice, as long as no hold is placed on them.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Paperless notifications: Notices and reminders will be sent via email or phone. To update your account information, call 239-472-2483 or visit the main desk for assistance.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Fines and fees: The Sanibel Public Library District Board of Commissioners has approved the reinstatement of overdue fines.
