Florida Senate President Ben Albritton is\u00a0under observation at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare after experiencing chest pain, a spokesperson said Jan. 26.<\/p>\n

The 57-year-old Wauchula Republican went to the hospital Jan. 25; emergency department physicians\u00a0discovered a small blood clot in his lung, according to Senate spokesperson Katherine Betta.<\/p>\n

Albritton, who\u00a0is serving his second year as the\u00a0chamber\u2019s president, remained at the hospital under\u00a0observation and was awaiting further testing.<\/p>\n

Lawmakers are fast approaching the midpoint of the 2026 legislative session, with the state budget\u00a0remaining\u00a0to be negotiated with the House.<\/p>\n

Betta said all scheduled Senate business for the week will\u00a0proceed as planned.<\/p>\n

Albritton\u00a0is in “good spirits” and in frequent communication with staff by phone and email. His\u00a0second in command is Senate\u00a0President Pro Tempore\u00a0Jason Brodeur, R-Orlando.<\/p>\n

Albritton, first elected to the Legislature in 2010,\u00a0is expected to return to the Senate\u00a0later this week.\u00a0The\u00a02026 session is scheduled to end March 13.<\/p>\n
