{"id":133311,"date":"2026-01-27T09:50:35","date_gmt":"2026-01-27T09:50:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/133311\/"},"modified":"2026-01-27T09:50:35","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T09:50:35","slug":"central-florida-cold-weather-shelters-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/133311\/","title":{"rendered":"Central Florida cold weather shelters open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FLORIDA \u2014 With another cold weather blast headed toward Central Florida starting Monday night, county emergency centers and nonprofits are preparing to keep residents warm and safe.<\/p>\n<p>Brevard County<\/p>\n<p>Multiple organizations are opening their doors to support the community during the cold weather in Brevard County.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.matthewshopeministries.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Matthew\u2019s Hope<\/a>\u00a0in Brevard County is opening a freeze warning cold weather shelter to the homeless once again starting Monday. The shelters will open each day at 4 p.m. as long as temperatures remain extremely cold.<\/p>\n<p>Dinner and breakfast will be served.<\/p>\n<p>Matthew&#8217;s Hope is located at\u00a0825 Forrest Ave. in Cocoa.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/sharingcenter.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Sharing Center of Central Brevard<\/a> is opening its doors for an emergency cold weather shelter at 6 p.m. Monday to 9 a.m. the next morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Space is limited and works on a first come first serve basis. Dinner will be served followed with breakfast in the morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Sharing Center is located at 113 Aurora Street\u00a0St., in Cocoa.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/titusvilleciviccenter.com\/lifepointe-ministries\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">LifePointe Ministries<\/a>\u00a0is opening a cold weather shelter at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Titusville Civic Center until 9 a.m. the next morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Titusville Civic Center is located at\u00a04220 S. Hopkins Ave. in Titusville.<\/p>\n<p>Dinner and breakfast will be served. Babcock St.<\/p>\n<p>Dinner and breakfast will be served.<\/p>\n<p>Flagler County<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/flaglershelteringtree.com\/cold-weather-shelter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Sheltering Tree<\/a> will open its cold-weather shelter Monday through Thursday at the Rock Transformation Center for anyone who needs a safe and warm place to stay.\u00a0The Rock Transformation Center is located at 2200 N. State St. It will open at 5 p.m. each night and close at 8 a.m. the following day.<\/p>\n<p>The county will also provide bus transportation along a single route on this schedule:<\/p>\n<p>McDonald&#8217;s at Old Kings Road South and State Road 100 at the dirt road on the east side, 4 p.m.<br \/>\nCircle K at Kingswood and Old Kings Road, 4:40 p.m.<br \/>\nDollar Tree behind Carrabba\u2019s in the Dollar Tree parking lot, 4:50 p.m.<br \/>\nPalm Coast Main Branch Library, northwest corner of Palm Coast Parkway and Belle Terre Parkway, 4:55 p.m.<br \/>\nBunnell Free Clinic, 703 Moody Blvd., 5 p.m.<br \/>\nBridges United Methodist Church in Bunnell, 205 N. Pine St., 5 p.m. (listed as the same pickup time because of the close proximity)<\/p>\n<p>For more information, call 386-437-3258.<\/p>\n<p>Lake County<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifepointechurch.me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Eustis LifePointe Church<\/a> is activating an overnight emergency cold weather shelter in Lake County on Monday, Jan. 26, Tuesday, Jan. 27, Wednesday, Jan. 28 and Thursday, Jan. 29. The shelter will close at 7 a.m. the following day. The shelter does not operate between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on any day. The county will monitor conditions and provide updates, if necessary.<\/p>\n<p>LifePointe Church is located at 3551 E. Orange Ave. in\u00a0Eustis.<\/p>\n<p>Dinner and breakfast will be provided by volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>Lake County\u2019s Office of Emergency Management is also coordinating with the Salvation Army in Leesburg\u00a0to operate a daytime warming center at 2605 South St., open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27, Wednesday, Jan. 28 and Thursday, Jan. 29.<\/p>\n<p>Lake County Transit will provide free transportation\u00a0via fixed route (LakeXpress). Residents who are unable to access a LakeXpress route or reach a shuttle stop and need transportation to the cold weather shelter may call Lake County Connection at 352-742-2612 before 2 p.m. on Jan. 26 to make arrangements.<\/p>\n<p>The following is the transportation schedule to the shelter:<\/p>\n<p>Bus arrives at Salvation Army, 2605 South St., in Leesburg at 3:20 p.m. and departs for shelter at 3:30 p.m.<br \/>\nBus arrives at Citizens Transfer Center, 1321 Citizens Blvd., in Leesburg at 3:40 p.m. and departs for shelter at 3:50 p.m.<br \/>\nBus arrives at Ardice Transfer Center, Ardice Avenue West of State Road 19 in Eustis at 4:30 p.m. and departs for shelter at 4:40 p.m.<br \/>\nBus arrives at The Open Door at 115 East Citrus Avenue in Eustis at 4:45 p.m. and departs for shelter at 4:55 p.m.<br \/>\nBus arrives at LifePoint Church at 5 p.m.<br \/>\nBus arrives at Clermont Park and Ride, 1995 U.S. Highway 27 in Clermont at 5:50 p.m. and departs for shelter at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Residents can receive cold-weather resource updates by texting COLD to 888-777.<\/p>\n<p>Orange County<\/p>\n<p>Temporary warming centers will open Monday through Thursday to support the Homeless Services Network by providing short-term overnight shelter for individuals without stable housing.<\/p>\n<p>The warming centers will be at the gymnasiums of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orangecountyfl.net\/cultureparks\/parks.aspx?m=dtlvw&amp;d=3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Barnett Park Recreation Center<\/a> at 4801 W. Colonial Dr. in Orlando and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orangecountyfl.net\/cultureparks\/parks.aspx?m=dtlvw&amp;d=54\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Goldenrod Recreation Center<\/a> at 4863 N. Goldenrod Road in Winter Park on the following dates:<\/p>\n<p>Monday, Jan. 26, from 5 p.m. to 9 a.m.<br \/>\nTuesday, Jan. 27, from 5 p.m. to 9 a.m.<br \/>\nWednesday, Jan. 28, from 5 p.m. to 9 a.m.<br \/>\nThursday, Jan. 29, from 5 p.m. to 10 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>For residents located in rural east Orange County, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocfl.net\/cultureparks\/parks.aspx?m=dtlvw&amp;d=7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bithlo Community Park<\/a> at 18501 Washington Ave. will serve as a transportation hub, providing bus service to the Goldenrod Recreation Center. LYNX bus pickups will occur on the following dates:<\/p>\n<p>Monday, Jan. 26, 5 p.m. to 9 a.m.<br \/>\nTuesday, Jan. 27, 5 p.m. to 9 a.m.<br \/>\nWednesday, Jan. 28, 5 p.m. to 9 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>LYNX buses will offer free transportation to individuals traveling to a warming center. Secured pets are welcome on LYNX buses and at the warming centers. Pet owners must provide carriers for cats, leashes for dogs, and are responsible for bringing pet food and supplies.<\/p>\n<p>Additional Homeless Shelter Network-partner locations providing homeless services include:<\/p>\n<p>Operational hours are subject to change, based on weather forecast conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Osceola County<\/p>\n<p>Three cold weather shelters for those experiencing homelessness or without warm shelter will open in Osceola County on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, falling in line with established protocols for when temperatures are forecast to drop below 40 degrees. The shelters will open at 6 p.m. and provide nighttime refuge from the cold.<\/p>\n<p>First United Methodist Church, 1000 Ohio Ave., St. Cloud<br \/>\nIglesia Del Nazareno Casa De Vida, 2367 Fortune Road, Kissimmee<br \/>\nPoinciana Christian Church,\u00a03181 Pleasant Hill Road, Kissimmee<\/p>\n<p>Pets are housed at Osceola Animal Services during the operations. They must be in a carrier before they board, unless they are a service dog.<\/p>\n<p>Faith-based groups and other nonprofits are reaching out in areas where homeless individuals are known to congregate to alert them of shelter availability and help coordinate logistics.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Those needing transportation to shelter locations can travel at no cost using LYNX buses by telling drivers they are going to the cold weather shelter.<\/p>\n<p>People can sign up for alerts on their phone by texting &#8220;COLDWEATHER&#8221; to 888777.<\/p>\n<p>Volusia County<\/p>\n<p>Multiple community organizations in Volusia County will open cold-weather shelters on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings to indivduals without adequate heating or housing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/neighborhoodcenterwv.org\/category\/the-bridge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Bridge<\/a>, operated by the <a href=\"https:\/\/neighborhoodcenterwv.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Neighborhood Cente<\/a>r at 421 S. Palmetto Ave. in DeLand, will provide overnight cold-weather sheltering starting at 6:30 p.m. both nights and continuing until about 8 a.m. the following morning. Breakfast will be provided before the shelter closes. For more information about services at The Bridge, contact the Neighborhood Center at 386-734-8120, ext. 601.<\/p>\n<p>On the east side of the county, cold-weather sheltering will be coordinated through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.halifaxurbanministries.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Halifax Urban Ministries<\/a> (HUM) in partnership with local churches and nonprofit organizations. While HUM does not operate its own cold-weather shelter, it works with multiple groups to ensure individuals have access to safe, warm places to stay. Those needing shelter or transportation to one are encouraged to contact HUM at 386-317-5886 as soon as possible.
