In\u00a0his remarks, Alexander Beglov \"Beglov Beglov AlexanderGovernor of St Petersburg <\/a> pointed out
\nthat 2025 marked the\u00a060th anniversary of\u00a0the\u00a0decision to\u00a0bestow the\u00a0Hero City title on\u00a0St Petersburg. The\u00a0Governor went on\u00a0to\u00a0say that as\u00a0of\u00a0January\u00a01, there were 37,159 Leningrad Siege survivors living in\u00a0the\u00a0city. The\u00a0Siege of\u00a0Leningrad by\u00a0Nazi troops lasted for\u00a0872 days, from September\u00a08, 1941,
\nuntil January\u00a027, 1944. Recognising the\u00a0siege as\u00a0a\u00a0war crime was a\u00a0major
\nmilestone, the\u00a0Governor emphasised. A\u00a0court ruling designated these crimes as\u00a0acts of\u00a0genocide. In\u00a0addition to\u00a0this, 2025 was also the\u00a0first time Russia
\nmarked the\u00a0newly established Day of\u00a0Military Glory on\u00a0August\u00a09, which marks the\u00a0end of\u00a0the\u00a0Battle of\u00a0Leningrad in\u00a01944.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Governor said that national projects
\noffered a\u00a0platform for\u00a0outlining ten development priorities for\u00a0St Petersburg
\nuntil 2030. He elaborated on\u00a0several of\u00a0these projects, including efforts to\u00a0improve the\u00a0transport carcass within the\u00a0metropolitan area formed by\u00a0St
\nPetersburg and\u00a0parts of\u00a0the\u00a0Leningrad Region, as\u00a0well as\u00a0construction of\u00a0the\u00a0high-speed railway linking St Petersburg and\u00a0Moscow, building the\u00a0Bolshoi (Big)
\nSmolensky Draw Bridge, a\u00a0student yacht club on\u00a0the\u00a0Petrovskaya Kosa, which will
\nbe open to\u00a0students from various higher education institutions, as\u00a0well as\u00a0a\u00a0high-speed tramway line to\u00a0the\u00a0Kupchino-Slavyanka District where a\u00a0lot of\u00a0new
\nhousing is being built. The\u00a0Governor also mentioned new metro stations, efforts
\nto\u00a0address shortcomings and\u00a0deficits affecting social infrastructure, including
\nbuilding schools and\u00a0kindergartens, and\u00a0developing the\u00a0so-called technology
\nvalleys in\u00a0collaboration with universities.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0meeting\u2019s agenda also covered healthcare,
\nelderly care, assistance to\u00a0families with many children, and\u00a0environmental
\nmatters such as\u00a0building recycling plants and\u00a0reducing the\u00a0number of\u00a0landfills
\nby\u00a0a\u00a0factor of\u00a0ten. The\u00a0conversation also touched upon efforts to\u00a0preserve the\u00a0historical heritage and\u00a0support culture.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Governor said that he viewed taking care of\u00a0families and\u00a0supporting special military operation participants as\u00a0one of\u00a0his
\ncore objectives. This includes helping these people adapt, training them and\u00a0offering them housing. The\u00a0city has created an\u00a0online platform titled Back to\u00a0Civilian Life for\u00a0this purpose.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0addition, Alexander Beglov talked about helping
\nto\u00a0rebuild Mariupol in\u00a0the\u00a0Donetsk Region. The\u00a0Russian Theatre of\u00a0Drama was
\nrestored there after nationalists from Azov, a\u00a0Ukrainian terrorist
\norganisation, bombed it on\u00a0March\u00a016, 2022. The\u00a0Mariupol\u00a0\u2013 City of\u00a0Military Glory
\nmonument was unveiled there. Projects to\u00a0build schools and\u00a0kindergartens are
\nadvancing, and\u00a0the\u00a0second tramway line has entered the\u00a0design phase. Over the\u00a0past few years, more than 8,500 children spent their holidays in\u00a0St
