{"id":133708,"date":"2026-01-27T17:11:09","date_gmt":"2026-01-27T17:11:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/133708\/"},"modified":"2026-01-27T17:11:09","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T17:11:09","slug":"severe-water-shortage-prompts-watering-restrictions-for-most-of-the-tampa-bay-area","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/133708\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Severe&#8217; water shortage prompts watering restrictions for most of the Tampa Bay area"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Southwest Florida Water Management District declared a severe water shortage Tuesday, imposing one-day-per-week watering restrictions for most of Tampa Bay.<\/p>\n<p>TAMPA, Fla. \u2014 The Southwest Florida Water Management District Governing Board has declared a &#8220;severe&#8221; water shortage, prompting water usage restrictions for most of the Tampa Bay area.<\/p>\n<p>The modified phase II \u201csevere\u201d water shortage was issued due to dry conditions across the region. Beginning Feb. 8 through July 1, residents \u2014 including those on private wells \u2014 must follow one-day-per-week lawn watering restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>The restrictions apply to all of Citrus, DeSoto, Hardee, Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Sarasota and Sumter counties; portions of Charlotte, Highlands and Lake counties; the city of Dunnellon and The Villages in Marion County.<\/p>\n<p>Right now, the area is at a 13-inch regional deficit due to below-average rainfall this past summer. Plus, the district says water resources, such as aquifers, rivers and lakes, are continuing to decline and many are below normal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Public water supplies in the Tampa Bay area are lower than expected at this time of year.<\/p>\n<p>                <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"photo__placeholder\" loading=\"eager\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/a3298a4e-d036-405d-8627-7b6d061b6998_16x9.jpg\"\/><br \/>\n                <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"photo__main\" loading=\"eager\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/a3298a4e-d036-405d-8627-7b6d061b6998_1140x641.jpg\"  alt=\"\" style=\"opacity:0\" onload=\"this.style.opacity=1\"\/><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nLawn watering restrictions                    <\/p>\n<p>According to SWFWMD, outdoor water use accounts for more than 50% of water used by households.
