{"id":133963,"date":"2026-01-27T20:56:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-27T20:56:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/133963\/"},"modified":"2026-01-27T20:56:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T20:56:07","slug":"celtic-rock-bagpipes-draw-crowds-to-fort-myers-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/133963\/","title":{"rendered":"Celtic rock, bagpipes draw crowds to Fort Myers festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Celtic rock echoed down the block as attendees made their way into the Caloosa Amphitheater on Jan. 25 to celebrate the annual Caloosahatchee Celtic Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Among the festival lineup was Ed Harder, a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunsnhosesswfl.com\/\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Guns N\u2019 Hoses Pipes and Drums of Southwest Florida<\/a>, a performance group that honors first responders. Harder said the music reflects generations of Celtic customs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s all about family, and it\u2019s about tradition,\u201d Harder said. \u201cThe Irish were suppressed for many years, and when they came to this country, they took the jobs no one else wanted \u2014 coal mining, police work, firefighting. Gayle Baker, owner of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rampantlion.com\/products.html\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Rampant Lion Celtic Traders<\/a>, sold Celtic teas and souvenirs. Baker, who is Irish and married to a Scottish man, said their heritage runs deep. She and her husband have operated the business since 1986.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone needs to know where they come from,\u201d Baker said. \u201cEvery culture has a tree of life. The roots are where you came from, and the branches are what\u2019s ahead in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Baker said Celtic identity in modern times is often misunderstood. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Celts were a race of people made up of different subsets \u2014 the Scottish, the Irish, the Welsh, the Breton,\u201d she said. \u201cThe culture includes their religion, their artwork and their way of life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fort Myers Events Manager Brian Craig, who organized the festival, said fostering that sense of connection was the event\u2019s main goal. Whether attendees came for entertainment or education, Craig said the festival was designed to appeal to a wide audience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt hopefully can be educational as well as cultural,\u201d Craig said. \u201cWhether you\u2019re here to drink a Guinness, or here to learn or teach your kids some culture, we have a little bit for everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>WGCU is your trusted source for news and information in Southwest Florida.
