Council adopted a resolution declaring its intent to consider, with public input, the establishment of a Stormwater Management Assessment District using the uniform method of collection. If established, the assessment is intended to support the city\u2019s stormwater infrastructure maintenance and improvements.<\/p>\n
SECOND READINGS, PUBLIC HEARINGS<\/p>\n
Second readings and public hearings were held for the following Code of Ordinances:<\/p>\n
\u2013 Ordinance 25-019: Electrical and Mechanical Equipment<\/p>\n
Amends the Land Development Code with updated definitions and standards for elevated electrical and mechanical equipment, including accessory stairs and platforms for such installations.<\/p>\n
\u2013 Ordinance 25-022: Expedited Review of Waiver Applications<\/p>\n
Extends the expiration of waiver provisions for nonconforming structures in select districts through Dec. 31 to assist in hurricane recovery and streamline application review.<\/p>\n
\u2013 Ordinance 25-023: Conditional Uses to Aid Hurricane Recovery<\/p>\n
Updates conditional use provisions in the Land Development Code to support post-hurricane recovery efforts.<\/p>\n
\u2013 Ordinance 25-024: Waive Long-Form Development Permits<\/p>\n
Extends the waiver of long-form development permits for certain applications through Dec. 31.<\/p>\n
\u2013 Ordinance 25-025: Police Pension Clarification<\/p>\n
Clarifies language in the city Code regarding optional contribution rules and benefits under the Police Officers\u2019 Retirement Plan.<\/p>\n
All five ordinances were voted on and approved by council.<\/p>\n
PLANNING COMMISSION<\/p>\n
The council appointed Ken Colter, Kate Sergeant and Lyman Welch to the Sanibel Planning Commission for three-year terms, which will run from now through Jan. 15, 2029.<\/p>\n
WATER QUALITY REPORT<\/p>\n
Council received a water quality report from Natural Resources Director Holly Milbrandt that provided updates on current conditions, monitoring efforts and recent data related to Sanibel\u2019s surrounding waters. Staff also discussed trends, environmental factors affecting water quality and ongoing efforts to protect and improve coastal and estuarine resources.<\/p>\n
PRESENTATIONS<\/p>\n
\u2013 The council approved a proclamation recognizing Arbor Day and the city\u2019s commitment to protecting the natural environment and the city\u2019s trees.<\/p>\n
