{"id":134239,"date":"2026-01-28T00:23:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-28T00:23:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/134239\/"},"modified":"2026-01-28T00:23:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-28T00:23:07","slug":"texan-mother-counts-on-ronald-mcdonald-house-during-her-childrens-care-in-miami","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/134239\/","title":{"rendered":"Texan mother counts on Ronald McDonald House during her children\u2019s care in Miami"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Julia Cerda said both her daughter and son have undergone organ transplants at Jackson Memorial Hospital. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Cerda, who lives in Texas and counted on the Ronald McDonald House during her stays in Miami, is back as her son is undergoing cancer treatment. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe keep our faith in God and our trust in him,\u201d Cerda said. \u201cMy children were both born with their diagnosis, but they\u2019re both here for a reason.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Cerda, who has been a guest at the <a href=\"https:\/\/ronaldmcdonaldhouse.org\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/ronaldmcdonaldhouse.org\/\">Ronald McDonald House <\/a>since June, said both of her kids inherited \u201ca dominant gene\u201d that she carries. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI don\u2019t show any symptoms. I don\u2019t have a history of it in the family. I was told by a doctor, it was one in a million, and I got two in a million,\u201d Cerda said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">At 16 years old, Delilah started to travel to Miami when she was a baby. She had a central nutrition line that, Cerda said, damaged her liver. She underwent a seven-organ transplant in 2011 at JMH. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cLiam was born six years later, so we came for Liam\u2019s eight-organ transplant, and ever since 2016, we\u2019ve been coming every year as well,\u201d Cerda said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Liam has been undergoing chemotherapy after he was diagnosed with a form of post-transplant cancer. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cStaying at the Ronald McDonald\u2019s House has been a blessing,\u201d Cerda said. \u201cI can\u2019t stress it enough how much they\u2019ve helped me not stress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Soraya Rivera, the executive director of The Ronald McDonald House, said her team is dedicated to making the facility feel like a home away from home. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s not only a place for families to sleep and rest and eat, but it\u2019s just a community of support,\u201d Rivera said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The guests\u2019 average stay is about 30 days.
