According to court documents, Smith agreed to be released with an electronic monitoring device on him and a curfew to visit the newborn child.Smith, who is charged with second-degree murder with a firearm, is accused of shooting and killing Myrah Zeigler at a rented Fort Lauderdale home on May 19, 2025.The request for temporary release has angered Zeigler\u2019s family.Alacia Ford-Barron, Ziegler\u2019s mother, said on a Facebook Live post Monday that she received a call from her victim advocate informing her of the request made by Smith.Your neighborhood: Local coverage from WPBF 25 News\u201cAnybody that knows me, I try to give everybody the highest respect,\u201d an emotional Ford-Barron said. \u201cI don\u2019t care who is being born. On Aug. 4, 2025, Judge Tim Bailey granted Smith\u2019s motion to leave the jail to attend his father\u2019s wake and funeral.He was to be released with a GPS monitor device on him Friday, Aug. 8, 2025, at 9 a.m. and return to the jail Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, by 7 p.m.Three days later, in another court hearing, Bailey modified the release so that Smith could only attend the funeral. Smith was released Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, at 9 a.m. and had to return to the jail by 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025.In both instances, the state objected to Smith’s motion for temporary release from jail.\u201cAll I want is justice and it\u2019s like another slap in my face for this to think that he can be released to go see his baby born,\u201d a tearful Ford-Barron said.Ford-Barron said she plans to attend the motion hearing at the Broward County Courthouse on Wednesday to express to the judge why Smith should not be released.Since the short-term release in August, Judge Thomas J. A Broward County man accused of shooting and killing a 19-year-old Fort Pierce woman wants to temporarily leave jail, again.<\/p>\n
