TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A new 86-unit affordable housing complex could open as soon as 2028 on Tallahassee\u2019s Southside after the Leon County Commission voted to authorize gap funding for a project known as ViaNova.<\/p>\n
Sponsored by Volunteers of America-Florida, the project would receive a combined $187,000 from the City of Tallahassee and Leon County, which would sweeten their chances at receiving some $7,215,200 from the Florida Housing Finance Corporation (FHFC).<\/p>\n

According to county documents, 73 units would be reserved for those making 60% or less of the average median income, with another 13 units set aside for \u201cvery low income\u201d or those making less than 40% of the average median income.<\/p>\n
This year, Volunteers of America-Florida said Tallahassee is a second-tier priority zone for the FHFC, and if funding isn\u2019t granted from the state, they\u2019ll try again next year. <\/p>\n
They already tried once last year, but they didn\u2019t have the \u201cgap financing\u201d from the local governments, which increases their chance of state funding.<\/p>\n
