TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV\/ Florida Capital Bureau) – The two sides of gun reform advocacy met at the Florida Capitol on Wednesday. <\/p>\n
Anti-gun protestors discussed the dangers of recent gun bills passed by the House. These include lowering the gun purchase age from 21 back to 18<\/a> and allowing \u201ccampus carry\u201d at colleges.<\/a><\/p>\n Protestors like Andres Cubillos with Students Demand Action said major school mass shootings are proof these bills are ill-willed.<\/p>\n \u201cFlorida students have been trapped in a cycle of grief and advocacy,\u201d Cubillos said. \u201cWe have Parkland survivors who are FSU students today. Young people who have survived two different mass shootings before they have graduated. We shouldn\u2019t have to be up here fighting for our safety today.\u201d<\/p>\n More Florida politics:<\/p>\n Meanwhile, pro-gun supporters like Eric J. Friday with Florida Carry Inc. said the restoration of these laws will protect Second Amendment rights.<\/p>\n \u201cUltimately, the most important right that any of us have is the right to protect ourselves,\u201d Friday said. \u201cThat right should not be denied just because somebody is under some arbitrary age.\u201d <\/p>\n The gun age bill is awaiting a vote in the Senate. <\/p>\n Copyright 2026 WCTV.
