Mailman accused of pepper-spraying dogs faces judge <\/p>\n

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. \u2014 A mailman arrested on Wednesday<\/a> after Lauderhill police said he pepper-sprayed<\/a> three fenced-in dogs appeared in bond court on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Sian Andre Spence, 47, of Fort Lauderdale, is facing three animal cruelty charges in connection with the Jan. 2 incident.<\/p>\n

Video aired by Local 10 News on Monday shows that the three Shih Tzu-poodles, a mother named \u201cGinger\u201d and her two puppies \u201cDJ\u201d and \u201cJunior,\u201d were in the front yard barking from behind a fence when the mailman sprayed them.<\/p>\n

Owner Bianca Green called the mailman\u2019s actions \u201cmalicious\u201d and unnecessary and said on Wednesday that she was glad to hear of Spence\u2019s arrest.<\/p>\n

In court on Thursday, Spence\u2019s attorney said his client was \u201cstartled\u201d by the dogs.<\/p>\n

The judge pointed out that they were behind a fence, ordering Spence to have no firearms and no animals after setting a $4,500 bond.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the United States Postal Service said Spence \u201cremains employed by the Postal Service and is not currently on active duty.\u201d<\/p>\n

Spence posted the bond but had not been released from jail as of around noon on Thursday.<\/p>\n
