PETERSBURG, Fla. \u2014\u00a0St. Petersburg has been named one of the \u201cnext great food cities\u201d by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodandwine.com\/emerging-us-food-cities-11744710\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Food and Wine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The magazine credits the city for its access to fresh seafood, Michelin Star restaurants and Caribbean cuisines.<\/p>\n<p>What You Need To Know<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\nFood and Wine Magazine said St. Petersburg could be one of the &#8220;next great food cities&#8221;\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nIt said the city has great access to fresh seafood and high-end restaurants\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nPipo&#8217;s Cuban Caf\u00e9 was mentioned by Food and Wine for its longevity&#13;<br \/>\n<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nSeven other cities made the list&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>A handful of restaurants in St. Pete were mentioned, including <a href=\"https:\/\/pipos1979.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pipo\u2019s Cuban Caf\u00e9<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiving you quality Cuban food, no corners are cut, everything\u2019s authentic,\u201d said Ramon Hernandez, co-owner of Pipo\u2019s Cuban Caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Pipo\u2019s Cuban Caf\u00e9 in St. Pete has been around for nearly 50 years. Hernandez has been around the caf\u00e9 for the last three decades.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s awesome to keep doing it three generations later, and it just speaks for itself,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>They serve up Cuban sandwiches, shredded pork and more. Hernandez said they go through about 12 roasted pigs a day, and every year, he said they\u2019ve gotten busier.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether we\u2019re selling more pork or whether we sold more Cubans that year, something. But, consistently \u2014 I can\u2019t say for the 45 years \u2014 but I can say that the past ten years, I mean, we\u2019ve seen this business grow, grow, grow,\u201d Hernandez said.<\/p>\n<p>In July, Food and Wine named St. Petersburg as one of the next great food cities. Pipo\u2019s was recognized for its Caribbean flavors and longevity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust our name amongst some of the other names that were mentioned, it\u2019s something to be proud of,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said this recognition is great for St. Pete and expects it to bring in more hungry tourists, which of course is good for the business.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we\u2019ll probably see a little influx of people coming in. \u2018Hey, we saw you in the magazine. We saw you here and there.\u2019 All that helps and it might not be an immediate change, but that change is going to happen,\u201d Hernandez said.<\/p>\n<p>Whenever the change happens, Hernandez said they are prepared to stay busy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou get a hefty portion, no one leaves hungry,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Just make sure you come with an empty stomach.<\/p>\n<p>Other cities the magazine named as future great food cities include: Sacramento, California; Durham, North Carolina; Madison, Wisconsin; Providence, Rhode Island; Reno, Nevada; Columbus, Ohio; San Antonio, Texas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"ST.
