Morand died at the scene, SPPD said.<\/p>\n<p>ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox13news.com\/tag\/us\/fl\/pinellas\/st-petersburg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:St. Petersburg;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">St. Petersburg<\/a> police say a Friday evening shooting that left one man dead and another hospitalized with critical injuries appears to be an act of self-defense.<\/p>\n<p>What we know<\/p>\n<p>According to SPPD, officers responded to the 900 block of 22nd Lane South shortly after 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators say Syltico Morand, 29, and another man were armed when they tried to rob two men who were also armed and sitting in a vehicle parked on 22nd Lane South.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1242\" height=\"699\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"standard-img w-full w-full h-auto\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/783ae30e069ebb07fe4950d70c586cf4.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>A confrontation ensued between the men and Morand and the other suspect with him were shot, SPPD said.<\/p>\n<p>PREVIOUS STORY: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aol.com\/news\/1-dead-1-critically-injured-010330466.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:1 dead, 1 critically injured in St. Pete shooting;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">1 dead, 1 critically injured in St. Pete shooting<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Police say Morand died at the scene and the 30-year-old man with him was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Officers detained the two men that fired shots from their vehicle. Multiple firearms were recovered at the scene, according to SPPD.<\/p>\n<p>SPPD says the men that were detained have not been charged at this time.
